The European University Institute and the University of Florence, Italy, have co-organized a special event devoted to social progress and the recent IPSP report.

On Thursday, October 18th, the University of Florence will host a discussion entitled “The International Panel on Social Progress: A project of integrated knowledge.” This event will bring together many speakers, including four IPSP members:

  • Giovanni Andrea Cornia (Coordinating Lead Author, Chapter 3)
  • Massimo Livi Bacci (Lead Author, Chapter 1)
  • Marc Fleurbaey (IPSP Steering Committee)
  • Thomas Christiano (Lead Author, Chapter 14)

The discussion will be chaired by Mario Biggeri, Associate Professor and Director of the Program in Development Economics. Gian Paolo Rossini, the IPSP coordinator in Italy, will give an introductory presentation on the IPSP.

On Friday, October 19th, the European University Institute’s Max Weber Programme for Postdoctoral Studies (EUI MWP) will hold a roundtable and panel discussion. Entitled “The Challenge of Inequality to Democracy and the Rule of Law,” the event will be focused on Chapters 9 and 14 of the report. The panelists will be:

  • Richard Bellamy (Director of the MWP and Coordinating Lead Author, Chapter 14)
  • Donatella della Porta (Coordinating Lead Author, Chapter 9)
  • Marc Fleurbaey (IPSP Steering Committee)
  • Thomas Christiano (Lead Author, Chapter 14)
  • Mieke Verloo (Lead Author, Chapter 14)
