The annual congress of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) was held in Boston on May 24-27, 2019. LASA is the largest professional organization for researchers who study Latin America, and the congress brings together thousands of experts from across the globe. This year’s conference was held in Boston, USA, with the theme of « Nuestra América: Justice and Inclusion. »
The IPSP sponsored a panel at the conference, held on Friday, May 24th at 9:00 AM. With the title « Rethinking Society for the 21st Century from Latin America, » the panel was organized and chaired by Dr. Elisa Reis, Coordinating Lead Author of Chapter 1 of the IPSP report. Dr. Fernando Filgueira, Lead Author of Chapter 8 and Chapter 17, was one of the discussants on the panel, speaking on the topic of « Social Justice in the 21st Century: threats and opportunities with an eye on Latin America. »
Dr. Filgueira participated in several other sessions of the conference as well: a panel discussion on the topic of Latin American social policy after a decade of expansion, a panel on the « Politics and Policy of Distributional Outcomes, » and a roundtable on « The state, families, and paternity in Latin America. »
